Matisse proudly welcomes the Le Bambole to the Auckland Showroom
In 1970, the Italian furniture company B&B Italia commissioned designer Mario Bellini to create a line of seating that would be comfortable, aesthetically pleasing, and functional. Bellini's response was the Le Bambole collection, which would become an iconic representation of Italian design.
Bellini's vision focused on creating organic shapes with soft curves that would allow the furniture to blend seamlessly into any living space. To achieve this, he designed the seating with a flexible foam padding, allowing the furniture to mould to the contours of the user's body.
The name Le Bambole translates to "The Dolls,"
which reflects the collection's playful and approachable nature. The furniture's vibrant colors and bold design elements further emphasize this playful spirit. In addition to the standard sofa and armchair options, Bellini also designed a chaise longue and a pouf, expanding the collection's versatility.
Upon its debut in 1972, the Le Bambole collection quickly became an international sensation, earning Bellini widespread recognition and admiration for his contributions to modern design. Today, the collection remains an essential piece of B&B Italia's design heritage and a timeless example of Italian craftsmanship and innovation.
