Herman Miller and designer Ayse Birsel saw the sweeping changes in people, work, business strategies, and technology as a great opportunity to re-examine the work environment and resolve (or re-solve) critical workplace issues. The result of this inquiry is the Resolve system. Resolve isn't an evolution of panel-based products but a new invention with an elegantly simple structure based on 120-degree angles and a more efficient use of materials.
This new approach replaces the traditional panel-based, right-angled system, providing all the intelligence and function of panels while allowing greater diversity of workstation patterns and more efficient use of floor space. There's also more openness for collaborative environments and more flexibility.
The versatile vocabulary is about a quarter the size of most traditional systems, so Resolve is easy to plan and specify. Installation and reconfiguration are faster. Components support all the kinds of work people do, from intensive computer tasks to paperwork. Their human scale and ease of use reflect a fundamental principle of Resolve. It all starts with the person, giving each worker the tools and capabilities to be more comfortable, included, connected, and effective
Resolve can generate significant savings for organisations of all size's by addressing five workplace issues as follows:
Workstation density:
Resolve's 120-degree geometry can create higher densities than traditional systems without sacrificing openness, communication, or comfort. Resolve can increase workstation density 6-37% when compared to traditional 90-degree office furniture systems.
Furniture refresh:
Resolve's light-scaled screens provide an easy, inexpensive way to update the look of a facility. Changing screens is quick and easy and requires no furniture dismantling and no employee downtime.
Asset management:
Disassembled Resolve workstations occupy about 1/3 the volume/1/3 the weight of traditional workstations, reducing storage and handling costs. Resolve has about 10 percent of the components of traditional office furniture systems, making it easier to manage inventories.
Employee attraction and retention:
Resolve's human scale and ease of use give each worker the tools to be more comfortable and effective, helping them stay connected to their work and to each other. Resolve also facilitates personal expression and personal control over the workspace.
Productivity value:
Resolve's shapes and openness encouraged people to connect for the kind of original and resourceful interaction and collaboration that leads to new and innovative solutions, and also helps new employees become acclimated to their jobs faster than those working in traditional furniture environments. Resolve yields productivity gains of 5% and more.
