    Aesthetics of the archetypal. Classic yet contemporary. It reinforces the effect of a space with its single-minded styling. Striking proportions and meticulous details ensure understated elegance. Underscoring the design is a classy base lending linear precision. The 500 range features the larger version with loose back and seat cushions, whilst the 501 version is on smaller lines with fixed upholstery for the back portion. The Foster 500 and 501 range go with armchairs, two- to three-seater sofas and benches.

    Frame: Beech frame with zigzag springs
    Armchair upholstery: Loose seat and back cushions with fixed velcro
    Seat cushions: Cold cure foam sandwich construction with an outer layer of wadding
    Back cushion: Cold cure foam with an outer layer of wadding
    Legs: Steel matte brushed or black chrome, with synthetic glides

Norman Foster is the Founder and Chairman of Foster + Partners. He was born in Manchester in 1935. After graduating from Manchester University School of Architecture and City Planning in 1961 he won a Henry Fellowship to Yale University, where he gained a Master’s Degree in Architecture. Over the past four decades Foster + Partners has been responsible for a strikingly wide range of work, from urban masterplans, public infrastructure, airports, civic and cultural buildings, offices and workplaces to private houses and product design. In 1999 he was honoured with a life peerage in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, taking the title Lord Foster of Thames Bank.
