The kitchen is located in Governors Bay, nestled into the Port Hills, 20 minutes from Christchurch’s city centre. The owners sought an organic aesthetic
to complement the rugged bush surroundings and the exterior of the home finished in timber, stone and copper. It was important that the kitchen be
driven by function and to have a "measured elegant feel"
says Maria Pomeroy of Matisse Christchurch.
The “Gamma” collection from Arclinea was the perfect fit to complement the brief. The seamless aesthetic of “Gamma” features clean lines and incorporates recessed handles into the structure of the bench top. Long cabinet drawers were chosen to maximise storage and to accentuate the kitchen’s linear lines. Floating shelves help achieve the elegant, Japanese feel the clients loved and provide beautiful spaces for display.

Contrasting the generous use of timber, with soft matt black surfaces in defined areas on the island and back wall, helped avoid a strictly symmetrical
look. Stainless steel on the back working bench and splashbacks adds practicality and an element of reflection and light to the overall design.
The “Armour” finish, in Nero from Arclinea, is tactile and warm and has the benefit of absorbing light. This adds a softness to the colour palette during the day and at night when lighting comes into play.” says Maria Pomeroy of Matisse Christchurch.

Cassina
The Cassina showroom in Milan is a place of ideas, experimentation and innovation. Fifty years after it first opened, the showroom has been extended
and remodelled by the likes of Mario Bellini, Vico Magistretti and Achille Castiglioni to name a few. Now Cassina introduces Patricia Urquiola's 2018
remodel as a new chapter where the collection 'This Will Be the Space' is on show. Patricia Urquiola has designed a sculptural staircase leading to
the first floor by passing through the ‘cupola’ dome, the very heart of the showroom. Patricia proudly sits on the landing of the staircase on the Feltri Armchair designed
by Gaetano Pesce.
The latest sofa designed by Patricia Urquiola for Cassina is the Bowy Sofa a modular sofa with soft and welcoming curves that can
be composed in a playful way. Circular, semi-circular and rectangular shapes alternate dynamically to create a play of volumes and a graphic silhouette.
Cassina presents the Maralunga 40-Maxi sofa, designed by Vico Magistretti in 1973, in a version with a 35% wider and 10% deeper seat.
Maralunga 40-Maxi is pure temptation, an invitation to take the weight off your feet, lie back and relax into its even softer
and more welcoming form.
ClassiCon
ClassiCon featured a range of new products at Salone del Mobile, including the Aërias by Tilla Goldberg and Ippolito Fleitz Group.
The design is a combination of age old traditional weaving realised in elegant leather and high-tech CNC milled wood. The familiar pattern of the Vienna
wickerwork is reinterpreted on a larger scale with leather as the weaving material. Aërias has been awarded winner by Stylepark Selected
Salone del Mobile 2018.
The Pli Table (above) presents itself with a selection of tabletops in spectacular marble patterns and colours. The Pli table was
a winner of Wallpaper* Magazine’s Design Awards 2018.The Pegasus Home Desk designed by Ippolito Fleitz and Tilla Goldberg is now available
in new colours including leather in khaki and body in nightblue (below).
BD Barcelona
Bd Barcelona presented a range of innovative designs, a highlight being the Grasso collection designed by Stephen Burks. The collection includes
an armchair, stools and ceramic designs available in a range of colour and textile options.
Stephen Burks’ work is inspired by the culture and traditional handcrafts of Dakar. The visual result sits well with BD Barcelona’s long tradition of supporting adventurous artistic expression.
The ceramics within the Grasso Collection push the boundaries of the furniture collection further with a complete organic yet
structured form. The ribbing forms a restraint much like the framing of the stools and armchair designs.
